World Horror Convention 2008

I just got home from the World Horror Convention, which is being held right here in Salt Lake City. Since I live in the suburbs, the con is only 25 minutes away. I attended with my buddy Patrick Tracy and we had our usual great time. I'm not a horror writer per se, but I have two stories with strong horror elements. Mostly, I'm a fantasy writer. Still, this is a great con where writers, publishers, and editors hang out.  My first horror story is Almost Brothers in the DAW anthology, Fellowship Fantastic. I managed to get the lead story and I need to make Almost Brothers into a novel. The other one is The Queen's Ransom in Blue Kingdoms Shades and Specters.

So, I was on a panel today on networking, and it went really well. We had a good turnout and the attendees were happy at the end. I love it when a panel turns out so well.

Then I attended some panels and went to dinner with some cool writer friends: Thom Allen, Eric Swedin, Patrick Tracy, and Clint Johnson. There was some chatting and then I went to a poetry reading by lots of different writers. The poems were amazing and powerful. My friend, JoSelle Vanderhooft read from her Stoker nominated book, Ossuary. It's amazingly beautiful. I hope she wins the Stoker. That would be so spectacular. Also, Steve Resnic Tem and his wife read some great poems as well.

World Horror is a fabulous convention and I'm so glad that I went. Now I can look forward to Friday and Saturday as I'll be at the con the whole time.

Did I mention there were lots of skulls?

Paul,

It was so nice to get the chance to talk to you! I don't usually get the opportunity to talk to people that are at the cons. So I am glad that you came to see us and talk!

Hey, Paul! Glad to read you had a great time at WHC. Nice to have a cool con so close to home, huh?

I've not started on my Blue Kingdoms story yet ... but an idea, she brews. I've got to get a decent handle on my main character and then she'll tell me what story she wants heard, ya know?

Paul...

I've added you to my list of ones I check (the blog). It's always interesting to read about other peoples lives, what they are doing, or what they are wanting to accomplish.

I've still got to get to the library for your book... hopefully that will be a stop for me tomorrow!

Danielle,

Thanks for checking out my blog and for your interest. It was great talking with you too. Thanks for going to your library and requesting my book. It comes out April 16 and that would be great if you would ask them to order it.

P.S. Send along your email address sometime and I'll add you to my address book. Contact me at www.paulgenesse.com and I'll get back in touch.

Best wishes,

I'm glad you liked all my skulls. I doubt anyone bothered to count them, but if they did, they would have found exactly thirteen. {g}

It was great to catch up with you at the WHC. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
